The Lumo Story

Hi, I'm Tim Hughes - founder of Lumo Coffee and occasional bridge jumper. Lumo Coffee came from my background in Health & Fitness and my passion for coffee. The two are combined. The research on the health benefits of coffee was too good to ignore.

I set out to find the healthiest coffee on the planet and this journey led our team all around the world. The coffee had to be organic, ethically farmed, a Specialty grade bean and pack an extremely high antioxidant content. We sourced, tasted and tested until finally we found the bean we had been chasing in the highlands of Peru. We did further testing and tasting with different roast profiles, tweaking temperatures and times to maintain the high antioxidants and outstanding aromas and flavours - above all it had to taste terrific!

The Health Benefits of Coffee

  • Antioxidants are chemicals that interact with and neutralize free radicals, thus preventing them from causing damage.
  • Caffeine and polyphenols improve mental and physical performance.
  • Polyphenols help control blood pressure, blood sugar levels and aids circulation.
  • Source of fibre. 3 cups a day gives 5g which is 25% of RDA.
  • Fermented bean – good for our microbiome.
  • Lower risk of heart disease.
  • Supports longevity through protection against DNA damage.

Sourced and roasted to preserve antioxidants

The tests came back from the Analytical Research Laboratory at the Southern Cross University in Lismore, NSW. We had to check with the Head Scientist to make sure there was no mistake - he was surprised too! It was confirmed and we were over the moon!

Lumo Coffee contains 3 times the antioxidants of regular coffee! Yep, our chosen bean is an antioxidant superstar!

Our coffee is also free from any nasties such as pesticides, mycotoxins, mould and chemicals.

Why Lumo?

In 1887, Polish physician Ludovic Zamenhof introduced Esperanto, a simple, easy-to-learn planned language.

His goal was to erase communication barriers between ethnic groups by providing them with a politically neutral, culturally free standard language.

Lumo is the Esperanto word for light. It represents life, vitality, growth. It guides the way and brings us hope.
